After potting some strawberries today I thought it would make a great first post. So here are 5 things to know about strawberries :
Don't bury the crown, it is where the shoots come out. And without shoots there will be no fruit.
There are two types of strawberries, June bearing which have a short have st season, and ever bearing which have a longer harvest.
Strawberries can grow other plants on a stem called a runner, which is why you sometimes get more than one plant per pot at a store.
Strawberries are perennials so if you want them to come back the next year you need to give them protection from winter temperatures, by covering the ground around them with either mulch or straw.
When using a garden bed instead of a strawberry pot, put crushed egg shells around them to keep slugs from eating your harvest!
